Who Am I? w/ Noah Watry: Having the Talk of a Lifetime

50 cards. 50 questions.

A few years ago the NFDA (National Funeral Directors Association) started promoting their message of “Remembering a Life” by way of having the talk of a lifetime.

This included but was not limited to, videos, brochures, books, and playing cards. Playing cards? Yep. Playing cards.

In my early twenties I was a semi-professional poker player. I paid the bills with my poker winnings but also had a job on the side. I revisited poker playing as a profession after my first attempt as an apprentice funeral director went awry.

In the summer and fall of 2015, I played online and live poker exclusively for income. It paid the bills. It even paid my way through my first semester of mortuary school.

Needless to say, when the NFDA released its 50-card set on “Having the Talk of a Lifetime,” I felt like things had come full circle. Fast forward to now, in 2023, when I have released my fourth book, “Life, Death, and Everything in Between: My Time as a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer.

This book details my humble (and not-so-wonderful) beginnings as an apprentice funeral director, final turn as a poker player, death, and the relationships I had and lost in the past 8 years.
